Review of CRM plan of the LIPASECU and Orientation on EAFM
In line with the mandate of BFAR in developing the technical capability of local partners in the development, management, regulation, conservation and protection of their fisheries and aquatic resources, the BFAR Provincial Fisheries Office of Antique conducts an activity on the review of the existing Integrated Coastal Resource Management Plans (CRM) of LIPASECU Bay-Wide Management Council leading towards Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management. Present in the activity were Municipal Mayors, SB Chair Committee on Fisheries and Agriculture, Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators, Municipal Agriculturists, AT - Fisheries, MFARMC Chairpersons and Members, NGOs, and National Government Agencies and other stakeholders. Realizing the importance of working together, the LGUs in northern Antique established the bay-wide management council as result of the pilot implementation of Antique Integrated Area Development (ANIAD) community-based coastal resource management project. The Libertad-Pandan-Sebaste-Culasi (LIPASECU) Bay - Wide Management Council was officially organized on October 3, 1997. The Council requested the assistance of BFAR in enhancing their capability in CRM planning and implementation, fishery law enforcement, livelihood projects and other possible assistance in strengthening and re-vitalizing the organization. The five-day activity aims to review and enhance the CRM plan of the LIPASECU and to orient the participants with the new approach to fisheries management, the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management.
